Resident pleads for help as sewage floods home

A sewage flood is keeping a Kaalfontein resident living in unbearable conditions, leaving her stranded and asking for help from relevant departments.

A resident of Kaalfontein, Itumeleng Campbell, is requesting urgent assistance after a sewage flood hit her home.

The resident said the sewage issue has been affecting their living space for over two weeks, making it difficult for her little ones to play comfortably in their own home.

“This sewage problem really needs to be fixed because it’s a safety hazard. I mean, I have children in the yard and a pet that wants to drink the sewage water. This is really frustrating.”

Campbell says she has been reporting the issue to the ward councillor, but there has not been any assistance. She is asking for the relevant officials to urgently attend to the problem.

Ward 111 councillor Nontuthuzelo Supe says she has escalated the matter to Johannesburg Water, and that there have been similar issues in the area. “The issue was formally logged with Johannesburg Water. Johannesburg Water is aware of the infrastructure challenges in the area.

DESCRIPTION:

The situation raises concerns about hygiene, sanitation, and potential health risks associated with sewage exposure, especially for residents who live close to the floods.

On April 11, the Midrand Reporter contacted Johannesburg Water about the matter, to confirm whether the matter was escalated to them and, if so, what efforts have they shown to help with it. An update will be provided as soon as a response is received.
