Lever Road residents fed up with recurring sewage overflow
More and more residents of Midrand face sewage blockages and overflow, leaving the question: Is Johannesburg Water doing what they are supposed to do?
Residents from Kaalfontein, Ivory Park, Noordwyk, and Halfway House are asking if they are being taken seriously, after various reports of sewage overflows on Lever Road seem to be being ignored.
Sewage problems, including blockages and overflows, have become prominent in Midrand, leaving residents worried about their health and safety.
The sewage overflows start at 6th Road, reaching all the way down to Lever Road and Coubrough Road. Residents say they have been there for over five years now.
Some of the manholes that experienced sewage bursts have been fixed, but that just caused others to start overflowing.

Residents say it’s unfair to have to walk on roads filled with sewage. Noordwyk resident Lynne Maclean speaks about how tiring this has been for residents.
“We are tired of this sewage, because, honestly, it does get fixed and then the next day we have a problem with it again. People are living in this.”
Residents say that Johannesburg Water did respond to them, saying they have installed cameras to see what the cause of the problem is, but still there hasn’t been any action.

One of the Noordwyk residents, Otto Ramokoka, expressed how he feels about this issue, and what he wants to see happen.
“I’m blaming the City of Johannesburg. Our councillor has been reporting this issue several times after receiving complaints from us residents, but still there hasn’t been anything concrete happening. Please assist us and come fix this mess.”
