Ebony Park artist brings purpose back to music

Gospel artist Shibe Lephalala believes in bringing back the true meaning of music.

Shibe Lephalala is a gospel artist and performer from Ebony Park Ext 4. Born and raised in Seshego, Limpopo, Lephalala moved to Midrand in 2014 to get exposure and kickstart her music career.

She says she started singing in primary school.

From that moment, she knew that music is something she wanted to pursue, because whenever teachers would ask her what she wanted to be when she grows up, she always responded by saying: “I want to be Celine Dion”.

The artist mentions how music has become something people do not cherish and respect anymore. “When I was growing up, back then I knew music to be something that people gave messages through.

It had meaning, and when people had causes they were fighting against, music became a tool for that. Now, people just sing about whatever, and the younger generation gets influenced about the life of gangsterism through music.”

Lephalala added that she wants to put back into music what it has lost. Its authenticity and purpose of giving meaning to listeners.

She plans on doing this with her latest song, Ditswamolomong, which was released in May 28 and means it all comes from the mouth.

The song will bring listeners closer to God and give further meaning to the saying, ‘What you say with your mouth is what exactly happens’. “Funny thing is, I recorded this song three years back.

Back then it didn’t really speak to me, but this year I feel like I relate more to it. So, I decided to rework it a bit and release now, because I definitely feel more aligned to it now.”
