Johannesburg Water confirms repair to Midrand business leak, but investigation continues
After reportedly flowing unchecked for more than two weeks, a Midrand business water leak has finally been fixed, with Johannesburg Water probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Johannesburg Water has confirmed that it has repaired a water leak at a business property along Old Pretoria Main Road in Midrand, following complaints from local councillors and business operators.
The utility’s spokesperson, Nombuso Shabalala, said the entity attended to and repaired the reported leak on June 1.

However, further investigations are now underway following concerns raised about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“In light of the concerns that have subsequently been raised, Johannesburg Water is undertaking further investigations to verify all relevant facts and establish the full circumstances surrounding the matter. We will provide an update once the investigation has been concluded.”

The response comes after reports that water had been flowing unchecked for more than two weeks at the property, raising concerns over water wastage and its impact on surrounding businesses.
Ward 132 councillor, and Midrand constituency chairperson, Annette Deppe, accompanied by Ward 110 proportional representative councillor Graham de Kock, recently conducted a site visit to inspect the leak after receiving complaints from affected stakeholders.

The councillors criticised Johannesburg Water over alleged delays in resolving the issue, arguing that the prolonged leak had placed unnecessary strain on businesses operating in the area.
During the visit, they expressed concern over the amount of water being lost and the potential consequences for local infrastructure and economic activity.
The leaking water had pooled on parts of the property, creating an ongoing nuisance for tenants and visitors.
The entity has committed to releasing further information once its investigation has been finalised.
