Midrand motorists warned of traffic disruptions as march heads to Midrand High School
Roads around Boulders, Alexandra Avenue, and First Road are expected to experience delays on July 30 as about 250 protesters march to Midrand High School to hand over a memorandum over the alleged employment of foreign nationals.
Motorists and pedestrians travelling through parts of Midrand on July 30 are advised to expect traffic disruptions and possible delays as a planned march makes its way through several major roads.
The March and March Movement Region A is set to stage a peaceful march to Midrand High School, where it will hand over a memorandum of demands to the school and the Gauteng Department of Education.
The march aims to raise concerns over the alleged employment of foreign nationals at Midrand High School and other schools in the area.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that the march has been officially approved. JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said the gathering will begin at 09:00 at the BP Garage opposite Boulders Shopping Centre, with the march expected to start at 10:00.
“The march is organised by March and March Movement Region A for the purpose of submitting a memorandum of demands to Midrand High School and the Gauteng Department of Education regarding the employment of foreign teachers,” said Fihla.
He said the memorandum is expected to be handed over at 11:00, with participants scheduled to disperse by approximately 13:00.
Fihla added that around 250 people are expected to participate. “JMPD officers will be deployed along the route to ensure public safety, manage traffic flow and ensure the gathering proceeds peacefully,” he said.
Region A movement coordinator and march convenor Thabiso Gerald Mehlape said participants will assemble at the BP garage at the corner of Old Pretoria Road and Alexandra Avenue before proceeding along Alexandra Avenue and First Road then turning left on 3rd Road ending at Midrand High School.

This might also affect roads such as 16th Road, De Winnar Street, Smuts Drive, and Van Heerden Avenue. “The route is approximately 1.9km,” said Mehlape.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, use alternative routes where possible, and follow the instructions of JMPD officers who will be managing traffic along the procession route.
