A peaceful march led by the Mayibuye Youth Activists Movement is under way as hundreds of residents head to Midrand Industrial Park to hand over a memorandum demanding jobs for local communities.
Hundreds of unemployed residents from communities across Midrand have gathered at the corner of Modderfontein and Dane roads in Rabie Ridge ahead of a peaceful march to the Midrand Industrial Park (MIP), where they will demand greater access to employment opportunities.

The march, organised by the Mayibuye Youth Activists Movement, has drawn both young people and adults from Mayibuye, Austin View, President Park, Klipfontein, Phomolong, Rabie Ridge, Kanana and surrounding areas.

Carrying copies of their CVs, many of the marchers hope the demonstration will not only highlight the unemployment crisis affecting local communities but also open doors to potential job opportunities.

Organisers are expected to hand over a memorandum to management at the Midrand Industrial Park, while residents will also submit their CVs in the hope of being considered for future employment.

A visible law enforcement presence is monitoring the march to ensure it remains peaceful and orderly.

Speaking to Midrand Reporter before the march commenced, Mayibuye Youth Activists Movement spokesperson and march convener Thabiso Mehlape said the initiative is aimed at giving unemployed residents a voice and calling on businesses operating within the industrial park to prioritise hiring people from surrounding communities.

Midrand Reporter is on the scene and will provide updates as the march progresses and once the memorandum has been handed over.
