I attach herewith a photograph taken in my vehicle on the New Road interchange at 4.41pm while on my way home on 3 February. You will note from the photo that it took me 28 minutes to travel 1.6km at a fuel consumption of 39.3 litres per 100km. This 1.6km trip started on Old Pretoria Road to the N1 north onramp via New Road.
Most of the time it takes me longer to travel this 1.6km to the onramp than it takes me to travel from there to my home in Pretoria.
The traffic control in Midrand is shocking to say the least. What is worrying is that it is getting worse, not better. And please, do not use the words ‘Metro police’: who are they, where are they, do they still exist as an entity? They are a major contributing factor for the traffic chaos in Midrand as they are nowhere to be seen.
At the current price of fuel per litre one really does not want to experience this just about every day when travelling home via New Road. The authorities should do a traffic study on New Road in order to synchronise the robots for optimum traffic flow.
