On 1 December 2013, I wrote an e-mail to Midrand Reporter regarding the flow of untreated sewerage down the corner of Liebenberg and Lever roads. The paper contacted the relevant authorities and it was stated that it was a water leak and not sewerage. The paper wrote the story and Joburg Water came to fix the problem many times but it is always a sloppy job.
As I write this, on 2 April water no longer gushes onto the road fast as it used to but a constant stream of water still flows. Therefore, either the so called “burst pipe” was never fixed as claimed (the raw sewerage problem was fixed) or the repairs last, at most, a few days! Joburg Water has ‘logged the issue’ so many times but there is no lasting fix. Can the council to live up to its responsibilities? Midrand Reporter has written about the issue twice and it is now time to get authorities to finally hear us. Mr Mayor, I don’t even demand a “world class African City”, just a clean city will do!
