I am a South African who believes that citizens have the right to express their cultural and religious beliefs. I cannot, however, understand why Diwali, the Festival of Lights has been turned into what I would like to term as the “Festival of Big Bangs” or perhaps the “Big Bang Theory”!
It seems to be a case of who can let off the loudest sounding fireworks in the neighbourhood!
Our glass windows and sliding doors rattled and vibrated throughout the festival for three evenings and our little one awoke crying every night from her sleep, terrified. Let me not mention the effect it had on my poor pooch.
Five days after Diwali, neighbours are still setting off fireworks that make us jump in our seats. Is this really necessary?
Come on people, be considerate of your neighbours. After all, that is what good neighbourliness is all about.
