I read a Midrand Reporter story online about a night club that is keeping residents awake.
My problem is with the solutions provided, one of which is to, ‘consult the Environmental Health Department, Pollution Control, about the noise so they can come and investigate the noise levels’. If the department finds that the levels of noise are ‘acceptable’, that then means people have to live with loud noise or move on to more serene neighbourhoods.
Having grown up in Soweto I [bacame] very accustomed to noise, my house was right next to a shebeen and on the other side there was a community hall. People had weddings there and endless parties, but not once did I report the issue. I just accepted that the area I was living in was not so quiet.
I feel for those who desperately need a quiet sleep. You would not survive in informal settlements. Good luck with this attempt to get the club to shut down.
