Glen Austin Road is a concern

Glen Austin resident, Dirk Van Niekerk writes:

On 16 October, two people died in a car accident just a 100 metres from Glen Austin High School’s gate. One other person was seriously injured. On 15 October, a man on a bicycle also lost his life.

Last year, a car crashed into the school gate. Had it not been a weekend when the accident happened, imagine the aftermath if children were entering the premises at that moment.

The visibility [because of the dust] during peak hour traffic is very poor on Hampton Road. The state of the road is also poor and many cars crash into trees on the side of the road almost on a weekly basis.

The council’s argument that roads in agricultural holdings cannot be tarred becomes invalid if you look at the volume of traffic going down this road. People lose their lives because of the bad state the road is in.
