Aids run in Halfway House

HALFWAY HOUSE - Midrand runners gathered outside Halfway House Clinic recently to run in solidarity with the annual Aids awareness campaign which took place on 1 December.

In addition to being an Aids awareness run, the funds that were collected on the day were donated to Yenzani Children’s Home and New Jerusalem Children’s Home.

“The run was the perfect opportunity to try and make the children of these homes feel special,” said Lisebo Mamooe, the organiser of the run and founder of the Midrand Fitness Team. “And there are also people here from Pretoria and Tembisa.”

Mamooe said the support they received was more than just participation, “Businesses such as Sixbar Marketing, Pioneer Academy, the Show Me Your Number HIV Prevention Project, ER24, Herbalife and the Health Department [participated].”

She also thanked Ward 112 councillor, Candice James for her presence.

James said, “I appreciated the invite because the run speaks to important issues that affect the community. It is great to see everyone coming together like this.” She also said that she respected anyone who woke up early in the morning in pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.”We are hoping to support them next year as well,” said James.

Mamooe said they would continue their journey to see a healthier Midrand.
