Varsity College Waterfall teaches for tomorrow

WATERFALL – Varsity College Waterfall hosts the Teaching for Tomorrow seminar.

 

Staff of Varsity College Waterfall welcomed educational stakeholders and esteemed guests to its Teaching for Tomorrow seminar.

This seminar was aimed at encouraging teachers from schools within the Varsity College Waterfall community to engage with speakers and network with other teaching professionals.

David McConnell, principal of Varsity College Waterfall, introduced Gerrit Coetzee, director of initial teacher education at the Department of Higher Education and Training, who delivered a keynote address.

The seminar was split into two themes, and delegates could either sit in on Understanding or teaching the Y generation, or Continuing education, management and mentoring. Topics ranged from education management and teacher development to teaching strategies and academic support.

Speakers included Ella Mokgalane, senior manager: professional development and research at the South African Council for Educators; Dr Laura Dison, head of academic literacy at Wits; Daya Chetty, president of the South African Principals Association and Dr Zakhele Mbokazi, head of social sciences faculty at the Independent Institute of Education.
