Gymnasts show off skills
CARLSWALD – The young gymnasts competed for the top spots in floor exercises, trampoline, vault, balance beam and horizontal bar.
Young gymnasts had the crowd in awe at the Totsgames Gymnastics annual end of the year club competition held at Poplar Academy on November 26.
The junior gymnasts competed in floor exercises, trampoline, vault, balance beam and horizontal bar, with each contestant competing for the top spot in one of these categories.
Nelson Midzi, founder and head coach for Totsgames Gymnastics, said the annual event serves as an evaluation of what the children have learned and it is an opportunity for parents to get to see their children’s progress.
“It helps in developing confidence as they stand in front of the audience and show off their skills,” he added.
Some of the competition results are:
- Tumble tots team: Imi Tsoai – first on trampoline.
- Tumblers team: Thabelo Negovha – first on vault.
- Rollers team: Layla Tennant – first on horizontal bar.
- Little gymnast team: Iviwe Limba – first on trampoline.
- Grasshoppers team: Haley van der Walt – first on floor exercises.
- Tumbleweeds team: Zuri Naicker – first on vault.
Eight-year-old Amogelang Makola achieved five top-three positions in different categories – one of them was the first place on the bar challenge in the little gymnast team.
Makola said that she wanted to practice more as she was looking forward to competing again next year to earn five more certificates. “Now I am going to celebrate because getting these certificates was hard,” she concluded.
