Damons brace earns Marover a comeback victory

Kabelo Seopa opened the scoring in the first half before Damons levelled the score shortly after halftime.

Marcus Damons scored twice as Super Rovers (Marover) beat Alexandra’s top three regional league contender Malandela Mighty Heroes 2-1.

There was no vacation this Workers’ Day as Malandela welcomed Marover to the Alexandra Stadium.

The first stint of the encounter saw two glaring chances passed up — from both teams.

The hosts opened the scoring in the early minutes of the first half through Kabelo Seopa before Damons’ perfectly executed one-on-one levelled the score shortly after halftime.

Rovers began to challenge their opponents. Zwelihle Kwela dragged a shot just wide from distance before Randy Mackay’s tight angle left-footed effort was saved by Malandela Keeper, Mahlatse Lebepe.

Damons completed his brace after Lebepe made an outstanding save with a header from a rocket strike by Bokang Mohlampe, which fell landed in Damons’ path allowing him to mop a rebound in the 78th minute.

Malandela nearly equalised in the dying stages when some penalty area pinball ended with Luyolo Mzalamba seeing his shot blocked by Rovers defenders.
