This remarkable performance placed United at the top of the league table, albeit with other teams yet to play their initial fixtures over the coming weekend.

The match began with Dark Angels taking an early lead by scoring in the first half. However, United quickly regrouped, with new striker Ayabulela Dastile equalizing in the 30th minute after pressuring the Angels’ centre-back and goalkeeper, seizing the opportunity with skill.

Following their equalising goal, United gained momentum, applying continual pressure throughout the match. In the second half, captain and attacking midfielder Godsway Oppong scored a stunning goal to put United ahead, and, indeed, win the game, showcasing his tactical awareness and ability to capitalise on defensive errors.

Coach Morgan Moodley expressed enthusiasm about the team, noting the seamless integration of new signings Dastile, Siyabonga Mgoza, and Simphiwe Moteka from the SAB league, who are all showing great potential. He is eager to see how these players will contribute throughout the season.

“Our first league match win puts us at the top of the table, and we aim to stay there for the entire 2024/25 season,” said Moodley. He emphasized the importance of starting strong.

“I am very excited about this victory because it was hard-fought. While I’m not fully aware of our fixture for this weekend, our strategy remains focused on earning three points and maintaining our position at the top,” he added.

Moodley believes in the strength of his squad as they begin this new season. Reflecting on their debut season in 2023/24, he expressed pride in finishing fourth despite the challenges, stating, “It was a new journey for us, and we learned a lot.”

Looking ahead to 2024/25, the team aspires to win the league and earn promotion to the SAB league. He has full confidence in his players, affirming, “We have the talent within our ranks. I believe in them, and I know they trust their coach as we aim high.”
