Popular car show, Angela’s Picnic, returns to Riversands Farm Village this April
All Samca-affiliated clubs, public, and motoring car clubs wishing to showcase their vehicles are welcome to attend.
The popular charity fundraising car show, Angela’s Picnic, is set to return to Riversands Farm Village on April 6.
Traditionally held at Delta Park, the event has become a beloved institution in Johannesburg, attracting more than 1 000 cars in 2019.
Like many events, Angela’s Picnic faced a hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19, but it made a successful return in 2022 at its new venue in Riversands Farm Village, continuing into 2023 and 2024.

Organised by the South African Motor Club Association (Samca) in memory of Angela Heinz, the event raises funds for the hospice, Greendale House, and its ongoing charitable efforts. Samca was established in 1981 as an umbrella organisation for car clubs in response to petrol permits imposed by the government at that time.
Heinz was a well-known socialite both locally and internationally, serving as the representative for the Morgan Car Club in South Africa and famously driving a striking metallic nipple-pink Morgan.

During a meeting where various event ideas were being discussed, Heinz captivated the attendees by sharing her experience of a fantastic event in Bois de Boulogne, where participants dressed in period attire and enjoyed picnics beside their cars.
Inspired by her vision, Bob Brown from Samca said Heinz was asked to organise a similar event in South Africa, leading to the inception of Angela’s Picnic at Delta Park.
“Angela was adamant that a donation be asked from each participant and given to charity,” said Brown. “Originally, the takings, less expenses, were given to Cansa. After Angela tragically passed away from cancer herself, it was decided to donate the takings to the hospice, who had helped her with palliative care.”

Over the decades, Angela’s Picnic has raised well over R1m for charity, making it a fitting tribute to a vibrant and larger-than-life personality.

The event on April 6 is open to Samca-affiliated clubs as well as any motoring car clubs wishing to showcase their vehicles. Additionally, the public is welcome to attend, with a separate parking area designated for vehicles not on display.
“We kindly request that all visitors, whether coming to admire the cars or simply attending, make a donation to the hospice upon entry, ensuring they can continue their tireless work in helping others,” Brown concluded.
