Race director Mpho Makhado said from humble beginnings during the pandemic, the Waterfall City Half Marathon has grown into a major fixture on Gauteng’s running calendar.
“In 2024, the race welcomed 6 000 participants, and for the 2025 edition, organisers hosted 7 000 runners, making it one of the country’s fastest-growing races. With cash prizes exceeding R100 000, the 2025 event attracted a strong field of elite athletes eager to test themselves on the fast Waterfall City course,” said Makhado.
He added that while the competition was thrilling, no course records were broken this year, leaving the benchmark for future editions still up for the taking.
