Midranders crazy for colour

MIDRAND – Midrand residents and businesses represented the town at The Color Run in Pretoria.

Known as the happiest 5km run in the world, The Color Run run raised R83 000 for Motshegofadiwa Primary School in Hammanskraal.

The Color Run originated in the United States of America and is a race whereby colourants are thrown at participants at designated points. Runners wear white and the aim is to be covered in an array of colours by the end of the race. Hundreds of families, friends and corporate entities make their way to the run to raise funds for a good cause.

Keith Lennox, operations manager for Midrand’s Capitec branches said the school had been identified as one that required the most support within the region through the Adopt-a-School partnership. “We have been able to assist the school with new science equipment and supplies. Last year, as a result of The Color Run partnership, we raised around R83 000 for the school. This year, we are looking at a donation of close to R100 000 for the school.”

He said it was important for them, as a team, to come together and support the community they live in. “It is a fun day out of the office and a great way for us to keep fit and healthy,” said Lennox.

“The run has become an event where people have fun while exercising. We always look forward to seeing how people dress colourfully and enjoy themselves in different neighbourhoods. There is always a good spirit and friendship between strangers,” he said.

Thabiso Rapapali, also known as DJ Mack by Jacaranda FM listeners, also made his way from Midrand to support the run at Loftus Versveld in Pretoria. “I am here because it is for a good cause,” said Rapapali.
