South African recording artist Thabo ‘Jay-Tee’ Mahlasela has officially released his highly anticipated extended play (EP), Idedele Mntanami, which became available worldwide on June 12 across all major digital streaming platforms.

Originally from Verulam, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and now based in Midrand, Jay-Tee (32) continues to establish himself as one of South Africa’s emerging voices in contemporary hip-hop.

More than just another body of work, the EP represents personal growth, resilience, and artistic evolution. It is a project born from lived experiences, reflecting the challenges, sacrifices, victories, and lessons that have shaped him, both as an individual and as a musician.

The title, Idedele Mntanami, carries a profound double meaning.

Firstly, it symbolises artistic freedom, embracing his own creative identity without compromise and expressing himself authentically through music. Secondly, it reflects a deeply personal journey of transformation, representing the decision to leave behind negative habits, distractions, and limiting circumstances.

“This project reflects exactly who I am today. Every song tells a different chapter of my life, from the struggles and sacrifices to the victories and lessons that have shaped me.

I wanted to create something honest, something people can relate to. It’s about believing in yourself, embracing change, and understanding that growth requires letting go of certain things in order to move forward.”

Consisting of seven carefully crafted tracks, the project takes listeners on a journey through themes of perseverance, ambition, self-belief, personal development, faith, determination, and the realities of everyday life.

Each song contributes to a cohesive narrative that showcases not only Jay-Tee’s lyrical maturity but also his commitment to producing meaningful music that speaks to ordinary South Africans striving for a better future.

Leading the project is the motivational single, Mali Music, produced by acclaimed producer Hydro. The record serves as an anthem for hustlers, entrepreneurs, dreamers, and anyone determined to overcome life’s challenges.
