WATCH: R536 between Sabie and Hazyview officially open after roadworks
The road had been closed due to some extensive flood damage in February. Now it has been repaired and put back in service.

With the aim to ensure safe travelling during the festive season, the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) has officially opened the R536 between Sabie and Hazyview.
The spokesperson for the DPWRT, Bongani Dhlamini, said, “All road users can use the road. The department has worked tirelessly to ensure that the damages are repaired so that the community and tourists are able to travel safely between the towns during the festive season without any hassles.”

Lowvelder previously reported that a contractor had been appointed to carry out the repairs on the flood-damaged road since November, for the construction of temporary bypasses which would suffice until permanent repairs would be undertaken next year.

Dhlamini had said permanent repairs would commence in February and are expected to take 12 months, as it would also include the rehabilitation of a stretch of 7.7km of the road from Hazyview’s side.
