Suspect to appear in court again

MBOMBELA – A 38 year-old man who was arrested after he was found in possession of four elephants tusks and a leopard skin is appearing in the Nelspruit Magistrate Court today.

Mr Anton Smit was arrested by members of the Hawks Organised Serious Crime Unit on endangered species with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency on April 29. He was previously released on warning after being found in possession of the four elephant tusks weighing about 14 kg and worth a street value of R14 000 plus the leopard skin worth R40 000.
