Former SANDF member sentenced to six years
A former human resource personnel of the SANDF was found guilty of defrauding his employer for over R476 000.

MBOMBELA – The Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court sentenced the employee, Mr Ngoma Petros Mathenjwa to six years imprisonment for fraud on February 27.
The court heard that Mathenjwa defrauded the SANDF for an amount of R746 000 between May 2012 to March 2013.
He did this by not removing names of resigned employees from the SANDF Persal, instead, he substituted their banking details with that of himself and his wife. Charges against his wife were withdrawn by the court.

Mathenjwa pleaded guilty as charged. He also told the court that he used the money to buy specialised medication for his son who suffers from epilepsy.

However, the prosecutor, Mr Derrick Mashego led evidence of a police investigator revealing that Mathenjwa used the money to buy a car and build or renovate his house, not for any specialised treatment for his son.
During sentencing, Magistrate Sheila Msibi told Mathenjwa that he destroyed the level of trust between him and his employer. She further told the court that there is a countrywide outcry for fraud related matters.
