Ten bursaries up for grabs for Nkomazi athletes
The department of culture, sport and recreation through the Mpumalanga Academy of Sport and Lowmed Health and Sports Performance Centre will embark on a Talent Identification Drive to find the next Wayde van Niekerk and Caster Semenya.

NKOMAZI- Ten talented Nkomazi athletes will walk away with sports bursaries to pay for their high school education this weekend at the local talent identification event at KaMhlushwa Stadium, starting at 9:00.
The department of culture, sport and recreation through the Mpumalanga Academy of Sport and Lowmed Health and Sports Performance Centre will embark on a Talent Identification Drive to find the next Wayde van Niekerk and Caster Semenya. “We will focus on children between 13 and 15 years from the athletics sporting codes (track and field),” explains the department’s Sibongile Nkosi.
The Nkomazi Talent Identification was started last year and already it has produced stellar talent such as Amos Khoza who has been placed at Lowveld High School in Mbombela.
Nkosi continues, “The selected athletes will receive bursaries and be placed on a long-term Athlete Development Programme to ensure they develop and reach elite status. The bursary is extandable each year, provided the athlete meets the appropriate goals and it covers the following: school uniform, transport and from training sessions and competitions, supplements and nutrition, training gear and clothing, high performance conditioning, high performance testing, specialized coaches, medical and physiotheraphy fees and rehabilations costs as well as other costs linked to improving the athlete’s performance.”
