brothers get life for murder

Crime briefs.

LYDENBURG – Two brothers were each sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 44-year-old professional nurse, Betty Mogola, in 2010.

Jackson Mdluli (39) and his brother Zondi (32) killed Mogola on allegations that she did not give their mother good treatment at the Lydenburg Provincial Hospital where she was working.

They then framed their mother’s death on Mogola. Police investigations led to their arrest.

The Pretoria Circuit of the High Court in Middelburg gave them each a life sentence for the murder, five years’ imprisonment for attempted murder,

 

six months for assault, four years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, four years for pointing a firearm and another two years for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

 

All charges run concurrently with the life sentence.

The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Thulani Ntobela welcomed the sentence.

 

NELSPRUIT – Boxes of cocaine, heroine, nyaope and dagga were confiscated by police in Anderson Street during the recently held Overall Friday Operation.

 

The operation was led by community safety, security and liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe and focussed on drugs as reports revealed that drugs were being sold in that street.

 

“We found 20 rocks of cocaine, 37 pinches of heroine, 11 pinches of nyaope and a matchbox of 33,5 gram of dagga during the operation,” read a media statement.

 

Three people were also arrested during the operation, one for driving under the influence of alcohol and two for possession of counterfeit goods.

 

A total of 135 counterfeit CDs and 281 counterfeit DVDs were also confiscated.

Provincial and Mbombela traffic officers as well as officials of the Film and Publication Board were part of the operation.

NELSPRUIT – Two middle-aged men were each sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for house robbery in the Nelspruit Regional Court on

August 28.

 

Johannes Bongani Nkosi and Thulani Mandla Mashabane were found guilty in the District Court and their sentencing was later transferred to the Regional Court.

WHITE RIVER – A 23-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with theft.

It is alleged that the suspect, a former employee at Heidel Eggs, embezzled company funds to start his own business. He is expected to appear in court soon.
