ELUKWATINI – The community’s protest against the bail of a woman and her son arrested in connection with the murder of her estranged husband continued on Friday (October 10) outside the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court.
The community sang protesting songs and carried placards with slogans such as ‘No bail for Thembile,’ ‘Khumalo was our father and a member of the ANC,”. Some members of the community vowed to continue with their protest each time the suspects appear in court.
The suspects Ms Thembile Hlatshwayo (50) and her 26-year old son Mr Charles Mtshali were again denied bail by the magistrate court and will appear again in court on October 31.
On September 14 an argument between Hlatshwayo and the deceased who was with his friends led her chasing him and his friends away. It is further alleged that Hlatshwayo colluded with her son and their friends to assault Khumalo who was at another tavern by them. The group allegedly assaulted and stabbed him with a knife. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was transferred to Rob Ferreira Hospital where he succumbed to death a day after his admission.
Members of the community had already burnt down three houses belonging to Thembile as well as her tavern.
