Provincial memorial service-an honourable send off to Madiba

According to MPG, the event was a success and indeed a true reflection of the warm-hearted people of the place of the rising sun.

Mpumalanga Provincial Government(MPG) has extended  it utmost appreciation to more than 26 000 people  who attended the memorial service of the late Former State President Nelson Mandela and conducted themselves in a respectable and dignified manner regardless of the rainy weather conditions and the memorial service being held on a normal working day.

According to MPG, the event held at Mbombela stadium was a success and indeed a true reflection of the warm hearted people of the place of the rising sun. Both men and women of all races filled the stadium with jubilation and revolutionary songs in honour of Madiba.

The government  apologised to members of the public who did not make it to the stadium due to arranged transpots which arrived late and those who experienced minor challenges with logistical issues of food.

“Government wants to  appreciate the officials’ quick response to these issues, and ensured that people at the venue received food as expected, in fact, all of them received sufficient food parcels and even more.

The incident is therefore highly regrettable and unfortunate. We highly appreciate the fact that people traveled from far to pay tribute and respect to the late former State President Nelson Mandela,” said provincial government spokesperson,Ms Nonkululeko Mbatha.

She added that the province continues to maintain an excellent record of hosting government events in a dignified and professional manner.

“We would like to encourage the people of Mpumalanga to continue with the positive spirit of honouring Madiba in the most deserving manner,” she concluded.
