Older persons not given platform

I thought the gesture by the department was a good move that would see the relevant officials acquiring first-hand information that would prompt them to take immediate action to resolve the issues.

KANYAMAZANE – When I received an invitation to attend an event aimed at promoting older persons’ rights last week, I was looking forward to a session where the elderly would be given a platform to address their challenges with the MEC for health and social development, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini and the department’s deputy minister, Ms Bongi Ntuli.

 

Having previously spoken to a number of the senior citizens, and listened to the shocking abuse they face on a day-to-day basis, I thought the gesture by the department was a good move that would see the relevant officials acquiring first-hand information that would prompt them to take immediate action to resolve the issues.

 

To my disappointment, instead of the officials listening to the older persons, it was vice versa.
