Nelspruit Flying Squad recovers R500 000 Prado along N4
Police suspect an unregistered SUV intercepted on its way to Komatipoort was destined to be smuggled across the border into Mozambique.
Members of the Nelspruit Flying Squad have arrested a 38-year-old suspect between Montrose and Schagen after finding him in possession of a silver-grey Toyota Prado valued at about R500 000. The vehicle was reported stolen in Edenvale.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said police were conducting patrols when they spotted a silver Toyota Prado travelling without registration plates at about 01:00.
Suspect bound for Komatipoort
“The vehicle was stopped and searched, and further checks revealed that it was reported as sought in Edenvale, Gauteng. The driver was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the destination of the vehicle,” said Masondo.

Masondo said the driver indicated he was travelling to the Mjejane area near Komatipoort, where he claimed someone was waiting for him.
Smuggling investigation underway
The suspect was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and was scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, September 10.
Masondo said police could not rule out the possibility that the vehicle was destined to be smuggled into Mozambique, adding that further investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the vehicle.
