Mental illness sufferers in Masoyi to get free support

Research shows that support groups help people cope with and recover from a wide variety of problems.

NELSPRUIT – Residents suffering from mental illness in Masoyi can now enjoy the priviledge of accessing free support. Free support groups are available to offer anyone suffering from mental illnesses or substance abuse problems, as well as their partners, a place of warmth, understanding and support in the community.

Research shows that support groups help people cope with and recover from a wide variety of problems. They help individuals deal with a mental illness diagnosis in a well-adjusted way. They also provide information on the illness and ways to treat and manage it, as well as help give patients and loved ones time to adjust.

Guest speakers and experts in the field of psychology will at times be giving talks to the group.The groups will discuss effective ways of managing symptoms, self-help tips and how to help a loved one with mental health or substance abuse issues. The meetings take place once a month,on the last Thursday of every month,at the Phola Nsikazi Clinic(Numbi Road,Masoyi).
