On your marks, get set, go!

It is here! The athletics meet of the year is upon is with Interprimary and Interhigh 2014 taking place this weekend.

Tomorrow is D-day. Weeks of training and preparation will pay off when young athletes from across the Lowveld will take to the athletics field at Rob Ferreira High in a battle of skill and sportmanship.

White River Primary is proud to host the annual Inter-primary this year. Everyone is now just eager to get out of the blocks and run, jump or sprint for glory. Laerskool Bergland, Laerskool Nelspruit, Nelspruit Primary, Laerskool Laeveld, Laerskool Lydenburg and Barberton Primary will compete against each other.

Despite the fact that there will be no spirit cup this year, the different schools’ cheer leaders had been practicing hard to ensure that their school’s spirit is still evident.

More than 2000 singers are expected and about 840 athletes.

Mr Martin Nienaber, organiser at White River Primary says he expects that many records will be shattered on Friday. “At our school alone we have several exceptional athletes – specifically in the middle distances.”

Everyone should be seated at 07:00 already as the programme will kick off with the various schools’ cheer leaders’ entrance. All the hurdles events will take place first and the day will slowly progress to the last item, the relay.
