Alleged missing tongue found

This comes amid fears of the Maseko family that their deceased relative's tongue went missing from a local mortuary.

PIENAAR – The missing tongue, about which Mpumalanga News previously reported, has been found.

This comes amid fears of the Maseko family that their deceased relative’s tongue went missing from a local mortuary.

According to Sgt Jabu Ndubane, it was never stolen but was found inside the body. She added that during the second autopsy, the tongue was discovered. The debacle had earlier sparked fears within the family, who postponed the funeral.

The suspicion came after they had gone to the mortuary to dress the body. Ms Thandi Maseko, mother of the deceased had earlier indicated that they had difficulty clothing the corpse because it had been lying in a pool of blood, and that the tongue might have been missing.

Maseko added that when she had gone to the mortuary on the second day to probe, she found her son’s mouth open as if he had been singing. She said that one of the employees there wanted to put toilet paper inside the mouth, but the family refused because they realised that the tongue was missing.

As a result, they didn’t hold the burial on that day.
