
DULLSTROOM- A 24-year old man was sentenced to 20 years for the murder of his grandmother and three year old counsin.
Victor Matswitswi was convicted guilty by the South Gauteng High Court for both the murder of Sarah Mabaso ( 59) and the 3-year-old minor who were killed on July 15 2009 athe Windhoek farm in Dullstroom after Matswitswi had demanded money to buy dagga from his grandmother. The court heard that when Matswitswi’s grandmother told him that she had no money, he then hacked her to death with an axe and proceeded to hang his cousin on a tree with a wire. Matswitswi was traced and apprehended on July 26 in the same year at Nebo in Limpopo.
He was found guilty of the double murder on September 20 and sentenced on April 8 2014 to 20 years imprisonment for each murder. His sentences will run concurrently.
The management of the police in Mpumalanga, led by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela, welcome the sentence as it will serve as a deterrent to other offenders.
