Ehlanzeni tops in exams

There were 14 604 learners, which was the highest number of pupils, who wrote these exams and they achieved an 84,37% pass rate.

MBOMBELA – Ehlanzeni district achieved the highest pass mark from this year’s matric supplementary examinations.

There were 14 604 learners, which was the highest number of pupils, who wrote these exams and they achieved an 84,37% pass rate. Nkangala district came second with an 80,74 %pass rate with 13 627 learners.
Gert Sibande district was third with an overall 78,38% pass rate and Bohlabela district obtained 75,33%.

The provincial MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule said she was content with the overall 80,1% pass rate achieved by the province as it was announced by the minister of basic education, Ms Angie Motshekga.

“These results are indeed a reflection of the hard work and dedication by our teachers, learners and parents. We wish to thank all stakeholders who believed in the vision of government by rallying side by side with the Department of Education leading to the achievement of these results,” said Mhaule.

“We will not stop mentioning the undivided support received from the premier; Mr DD Mabuza and teacher unions. Had it not been for their foresight, we would not be celebrating. Indeed this is a good story to tell.”

The grade 12 results of Mpumalanga improved from 47,9% in 2009 to 80,8% in 2013 making it the most improved province in the country.
The statements of results for all learners who wrote the supplementary examination have already been dispatched to schools.

Learners are urged to collect them from Thursday May 8.
