Speaker issues stern warning against EFF members in Parliament

Drama unfolded during the youth parliament sitting at the Mpumalanga Legislature on Friday when EFF members demanded ANCYL leader, Desmond Moela to retract his statement.

MBOMBELA – Drama unfolded during the youth parliament sitting at the Mpumalanga Legislature on Friday when EFF members demanded ANCYL leader, Desmond Moela to retract his statement.
During his message of support, Moela had referred to opposition parties as Mickey Mouse organisations, accusing EFF in particular, for stealing the ruling party’s socio-economic policies.
“The new born party knows nothing about democracy and they were born yesterday, hence they do not know how to behave even in parliament,” he said.
Moela’s remarks angered EFF supporters who started howling, behaving inappropriately in the honourable house.
“If this is some kind of an ANC rally, we shouldn’t have been called to come and witness it,” said one of the EFF supporters.
The speaker, Ms Thandi Shongwe was not pleased by the unruly behaviour and threatened to send them out of the legislature.
“I’m disappointed by this behaviour and it is not going to groom you to be better leaders of tomorrow. We are not here to play and such conduct will never be tolerated here. This is not a mass meeting but an important sitting aimed at helping you,” Shongwe told them.
She also discouraged the angry supporters from following their leader, Julius Malema’s disrespect of parliament.
“A child of a father who smokes might also copy the bad habit while they know that it is a health hazard, but the fact that the father smokes does not make it right. I advise you to only learn what will build you from your leaders,”she said before addressing the house at large.
