Father speaks out about strange woman’s attempt to take twins

A father speaks out on how he and his wife had to wait for four hours after keys to a room where their babies were held for observation were apparently misplaced at Rob Ferreira hospital.

MBOMBELA – Another parent has come forward to tell his story of how he and his wife nearly lost their newborn twins at Rob Ferreira Hospital two years ago.

“We were told that the keys to the room where the babies were held for observation, had been misplaced. We waited four hours for the keys to be found and the twins to be released to us,” explained the father, who did not want to be named to protect his family.

He added that a woman who identified herself only as a social worker, was apparently behind this and she even followed them to their home in Mattafin. “She begged us to give the kids to her saying that she could help us provide them with food and clothes. When we asked for proof that she was indeed a social worker from the hospital, she failed to give us any and we turned her offer down,” he said.

The father said the woman continued to call even after they had shown no interest and demanded to have the babies, to such an extent that they decided to relocate to his parental home in Bushbuckridge. When asked if he had laid charges with the hospital’s management, the father said he was not taken seriously when he tried to open a case.

This revelation came a few days after a 16-year-old mother was tricked into giving her newborn son to a woman who claimed to have been sent by the baby’s grandmother to take him to her.
The mother has since been discharged and according to her family, was still traumatised
from the incident. “She is trying to cope, but still cries now and then,” said her mother-in-law.
