Things back to normal at Kutama Sinthumule Correctional centre
The Department of Correctional Services remains fully committed to the humane treatment of every detainee and the balance between security, control and justice .

The correctional service’s Acting National Commissioner, Mr Zach Modise, says the situation at Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre in Limpopo is back to normality and under control.
This follows industrial action by officials of the centre which is one of two Public-Private Partnership (PPP) correctional facilities in South Africa on September 16 following a dispute between management and workers.
Yesterday (Sept 18) the commissioner concluded his meetings with management, organised labour representatives and staff at the centre.
“As the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), we want to assure all concerned that the situation at Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre is now stable and normal. I have been at the centre together with 120 Correctional Officials from the DCS Emergency Support Team. We have been providing regular updates to Justice and correctional services minister Adv Michael Masutha as well as deputy minister of correctional services Mr Thabang Makwetla.
DCS remains fully committed to the humane treatment of every detainee, and the balance between security, control and justice is paramount. We wish to convey our thanks, and appreciation, to our Correctional Officials who put their lives at risk every day, the South African Police Service and all other emergency services for their swift response to this incident,” Modise said.
