The Mpumalanga department of education has finally decided on the future of Cefups Academy, a private school located on the outskirt of Mbombela, which made headlines after the death of a grade 12 learner this year apparently after being sjamboked at the school.
“The department had taken a decision to withdraw the registration of CEFUPS Academy with effect from 01 January 2015,”reads a media release on Friday afternoon from the school.
It also states that a letter informing the owner of CEFUPS Academy about this decision had been given to its founder on October 09.
“It is therefore within his rights that he may in terms of section 47(2) of the South African Schools Act appeal the decision to the member of the Executive Authority responsible for education in the province within five days from the date of receipt of the letter,”states department’s spokesman Mr Jasper Zwane.
