Sports committee shocked by sudden deaths of sports men

The Committee is concerned about the rising level of crime in the country and hopes the killers of Mr Meyiwa will be brought to book as soon as possible.

MBOMBELA – The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation has expressed shock and sadness on the deaths of Olympic silver medallist Mr Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (34) and Orlando Pirates captain Mr Senzo Meyiwa (27).

Malaudzi died in a car accident on Friday while Meyiwe, who was also Bafana Bafana captain, was shot dead on Sunday.

“It is a great loss to lose such talented sportsmen. South Africa will never be the same without them. The Committee is concerned about the rising level of crime in the country and hopes the killers of Mr Meyiwa will be brought to book as soon as possible,” said chairperson of the committee Miss Beauty Dlulane.

Dlulane added that the passing of these two young sportsmen has robbed the country of prolific athletes who still had a significant role to play in producing future athletes who would have learnt from their successes and maintain the country’s visibility as a winning nation in the leagues of sport in the world.

“We wish the Mulaudzi and Meyiwa families comfort and strength during this difficult time,” she concluded.
