Residents angered by garbage outside their homes
What irks them they say, is the fact that the local municipality has no mercy at them when they fail to pay their rates and taxes.

WHITE RIVER – Residents are agitated by the waste that is piling up outside their yards and the stench that comes from it for two weeks now.
What irks them they say, is the fact that the local municipality has no mercy at them when they fail to pay their rates and taxes.
“If we skip only a month and not pay, they do not waste time but block our electricity metres until we pay and now we have to deal with this,”said an angry resident,Ms Thandiwe Msimango.
Msimango added that they were not even notified that the waste was not going to be removed hence they took the garbage outside and now dogs are are worsening the situation by raiding the dirt.
Other community members told Mpumalanga News that they had to make arrangements to dispose the rubbish on their own because they could not stand the mess outside their homes.
“It has been raining lately and when the garbage gets wet it becomes disgusting with worms that are now infesting our homes, coming out of the dirt,” said a Mr Tom Makhubela.
The community members demand that the municipality treats them with the respect they say they deserve and notify them if there will be some kind of delay in delivering services that they pay for.
“The mayor of the whole municipality lives here in White River. I wonder if he he notices that this is messing up our beautiful town.” added Makhubela.
Mpumalanga News’ attempts to get the municipality’s clarity on the matter were in vain.
