LUPHISI – In what can be described as a historic moment, the ANC’s chief whip in the legislature, Mr Johane Mkhatshwa will do the unthinkable tomorrow when he honours the late Dr Nelson Mandela by handing over a house to one of the poorest families in the region.

This is in commemoration international icon, Isithalandwe and former president of the ANC and the country.

Mkhatshwa will be leading the ANC Caucus and ANC provincial officials during this occasion tomorrow when he hands over a newly-built and fully-furnished house to the Mnisi family.

“This is in keeping with Mandela’s legacy of human solidarity and caring for the disadvantaged and the poor.

I was heartily touched in July by the poor living conditions of the Mnisi family which among other things was living in a shack, with a 20-year-old young disabled man, Sibusiso who was not accessing a social grant after his mother passed away without a death certificate being processed.

“The living conditions under which the Mnisi family of seven members, which includes adults and children, were crowded in their shack.

Only one person was in employment. Further touching was getting the knowledge that a younger sister to disabled Sibusiso had left school to look after her brother.

“It was ANC structures that reported the matter as the family faced difficult times during rainy weather conditions and had to also spend some days without food.

I’m glad to report that a local bsuinessman made it possible and offered to build a five-roomed house for the family.

I must say, this has made mpumalanga proud that it can look after its own people,” explained Mkhatshwa.

The Office of the Chief Whip further made representation to SASSA and the Provincial Social Department, which resulted in a comprehensive social relief intervention to the Mnisi Family, that will be announced during the event tomorrow.

“With the ANC commitment to making education an engine of community development, tomorrow we shall also make a life-changing announcement on the educational intervention we are making to help the sister to disabled Sbusiso who had dropped out of school at standard 10.

“The event, therefore, will be a proud moment to commemorate one-year since the
passing on of President Mandela as we hand-over the new well-furnished house to the Mnisi Family as part of touching lives, still in the spirit of celebrating
20 years of freedom.
