STANDERTON – There were sparses of disruptive skirmishes by two factions of the ANC youth league at the funeral service of former youth league chairperson, Kgotso Motaung held at Sakhile stadium yesterday.
The tension between the two groups seated on the grandstand came to surface when they begun by singing different revolutionary songs, competing with each other.
The situation got out of hand as the one group was stopped by members of MKVA when they started throwing things at each other, including a bottle.
The situation was saved by former provincial youth league spokesperson,Ronald Lamola who took the microphone to quell their flaring tempers.
At that moment, the program had to be stopped for a few minutes while Lamola frantically called for calm.
That skirmish also raised its ugly head once again when the ANC provincial secretary, Lucky Ndinisa was about to address the mourners when the one group of youth leaguers belted a song, “Amamenemene,” which loosely translated refers to dodgy persons.
Ndinisa waited patiently for them to be calm, but they ignored him as he kept on calling out to them to come and sing in front of the stage as he said he liked the song.
Lamola once again rescued the situation and told the youth leaguers that they needed to respect Ndinisa as the provincial secretary and not a leader of any faction. They obliged and he addressed them.
In an earlier address, Lamola made a scathing attack on the current ANC leadership who have promoted patronage in membership than merely having literate, skilled and capable leaders out of the youth.
He denounced their tactics as destroying the image of the ANC by not democratizing processes within the organization.
The funeral service was attended by among others, Deputy minister in the presidency, Buti Manamela, PEC member, Peter Nyoni, executive mayors, councilors and a host of other high profile personalities.
