MTPA’s Modipane finally suspended

This follows months of political infighting.

MBOMBELA – Chief executive officer of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), Mr Jacques Modipane has been suspended.

This follows months of political infighting and personal strive among board members and executives within the organisation since Modipane’s appointment some two years ago.

According to a media release on Monday his suspension revolves around among others continuous irregular expenditure and the theft of rhino horns at the MTPA premises in April.

“The board took office effective September and our mandate was to stabilize, transform and put the agency on a commercial trajectory to realise its potential. Part of that process includes identifying and addressing the challenges that the entity has faced in the past years and working towards clarifying our vision and defining our strategy towards the achievement of our goal to be a world-class tourism destination,” said Mr William Sipho Lubisi, chairman of the MTPA board.

The decision to suspend Modipane was thoroughly discussed and as such he is suspended with full remuneration and benefits, pending the outcome of the investigation of the matters identified by the board. This process will therefore allow a smooth investigation process to unfold without any hindrance.

Further details and the outcome of the investigation will be provided in due course. The board will also in due course announce the acting CEO.
