Arts and culture committee mourns Flabba’s death

The committe's chairperson stated that the brutal killing of the celebrated artist highlights the continuing challenge faced by the country in relations to rising statistics on murder.

MBOMBELA – The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture has commended the speedy arrest of the suspected killer of hip-hop artist Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi.

The committe’s chairperson stated that the brutal killing of the celebrated artist highlights the continuing challenge faced by the country in relations to rising statistics on murder.

“The performing arts industry has lost a pioneer within the growing hip-hop industry in the country. It is devastating that Mr Habedi met his demise while the country still expected a great deal from him,” said Ms Xoliswa Tom, the chairperson of the committee.

Tom added that the committee is of the view that all South Africans must work with the South African Police Service to find workable solutions in dealing with rising murders within this country.

“Crime remains a societal problem that requires joint efforts if it is to be defeated,” she emphasised.

“The committee sends its heartfelt condolences to the Habedi family. The volume of work that he leaves behind is his gift to South Africa and it will remain with us for eternity,” Ms Tom concluded.
