MATSULU – A young man nowadays always looks over his shoulder after witnessing a group of men dragging another man to a railway line two weeks ago.The 26-year-old man told Mpumalanga News that he was walking next to KaGogo tavern when he saw the men who were engaged in a brawl pulling the victim out of the gate.
“Because I always assist a journalist friend of mine with what is happening in the community, I decided to follow them to witness where the fight was going to end up.
As they were beating up the poor man who was kicking and screaming, they were shouting that they were going to lay his head down on the railway so that it could be chopped off by the train,” he said.
The witness further said that at some point he took out his small camera that carried with him and when the men saw him capturing a picture some of them ran after him and snatched the camera from him. He managed to escape and now he was living in fear because he was afraid they might hunt him down.
The following day he heard that a man was found tied up on the railway with his head chopped off by train.
“I thought they were going to kill me and I’m lucky to have escaped from them but after hearing about the death of a man I suspect that it could be the same man I saw being beaten up and now I’m even more afraid,” he said.
Matsulu police confirmed that a man had indeed been found dead after he was hit by the train.
“No arrests have been made and a culpable homicide case has been opened pending investigations around the incident,” they said.
The police further urged anyone who might have knowledge about the incident to contact Const Nkomozakhe Khumalo on 013-778-8127.
