MBOMBELA – MTN employees affiliated to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in Mbombela have joined in the national ongoing strike by downing their tools in demand of bonus payments and better working conditions.
This morning the staff started with demonstrations in town before closing their business in the morning early hours. According to them, other concerns brought to the attention of the employer is that some workers had been working as temporary employees for years now and they want MTN to make them permanent.
The other issue is that the company have offered a guaranteed bonus pay of 4% of annual salaries in the ongoing engagements which the union rejected in demand of a bonus pay of 30 %.
A statement from MTN reads: “Customers are urged to be patient should they experience any delays when trying to reach our call centres. MTN SA will do its best to meet the needs of all our valued customers, as we remain committed to maintaining high levels of service at all times.”
