Program aims to assist youths

Having recruited about 700 youths to the artisan sphere and helped a number of entrepreneurs in the province, the agency says it urges young people to send through their CVs and profiles in order to be considered for their next rand of recruitment

MBOMBELA – The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) in the province says it is not convinced nor impressed by youth participation in the province.

In an interview with Mpumalanga News, the branch and provincial manager for the agency, Mr April Motloung, indicated his dissatisfaction with how the youth utilise the services they offer.

“We have a number of programmes designed for the youth. We have packages across various spectrums, we just want young people with skills to come to us, and we will help redirect their vision,” said Motloung.

In light of the upcoming Youth Month, the agency says it has activities planned throughout the month, and they expect the youth to jump on board. We have events on career guidance, health and wellness workshops, and of course, the main event on the 16th,” he added.

Having recruited about 700 youths to the artisan sphere and helped a number of entrepreneurs in the province, the agency says it urges young people to send through their CVs and profiles in order to be considered for their next rand of recruitment.

“Although we encompass almost every sort of skill there is, our focus has shifted to the scarce skills that will also better the economy of the province. Artisanry is aligned with it, via the construction path, and we endorse it greatly. Mining, tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing are our sole focus. We want young people to put their skills to use, we will help them in the right direction,” added Motloung.

Young people can submit their CVs to their nearest NYDA offices.
“We work with different companies and parastatals in the province, and we encourage them to prioritise local skills. Should Eskom need any more employees for whatever posts, the first consideration goes to our database and that’s where we get the people from. We also cater for people who want to further their studies through bursary programmes from our stakeholders. They can also log onto our website, www.nyda.gov.co.za, for more information on how to engage with us,” he said.

The theme for this year’s main celebration, which will be held at Pixley Ka Seme Local Municipality, is “Youth Moving South Africa Forward”, and the visual representation of the theme is All Stars, which will focus sharply on the youth and what they are about. I encourage all young people to come through and be part of this great celebration. More details about the specific venue are yet to be communicated,” he concluded.
