Loyal employees get the recognition they deserve

Ehlanzeni District Municipality hosted their Annual Performance Recognition Awards on Tuesday, honoring their hard working employees.

MBOMBELA-The executive mayor, Cllr Letta Shongwe officially opened the ceremony by honouring the attendees’ ‘dress code’ at the event. “I see the structure of beauty in the building.

“How significant for us to meet in this magnitude celebration during a month which is significant to the celebration of sacrifices and endurance suffered by Madiba and many others who are the foundation of our rainbow nation,” said Shongwe.

She added saying the best people can give to Madiba is to honour his sacrifices and his legacy. “To be the best municipality of the 21st century, we have to ensure we put together a motivated work force with good systems and control measures which are supportive to our mission. Moreover, we have to ensure that we get the necessary support from social and strategic partners in the business,” she said.

The municipal manager, Adv Hugh Mbatha stated that the importance of rules in the world is to shape the society. “Rules are meant to stabilise society so that when we lead by example, and people will follow. Our government rules are very important. “Individuals start a family, then meet and liaise with people. Today we celebrate the struggle and the bond that our family has developed. Yes, at the age of 21, we celebrate the growth of our children, but as parents, we continue to nurture them until death,” said Mbatha.

The recognition awards ceremony covered categories ranging from Best
Project of the Year 2013/14 that was won by social services and disaster management, with the skills gap and unemployment
project.

Most employees walked away with long-service awards from 10 to 14 years, 15 to 19 years, 20 to 24 years and 25 to 30 years
of service to the EDM.

Disaster management and social services department also won the Best System of the Year 2013/14 with emergency services and Expanded Public Works Programme.

The Best Department of the Year 2013/14 was municipal health and environmental management.

Ms Felicity Mokoena won as the Employee of the Year 2013/14 worth a
prize of R5 000 and Mr Sydney Nkosi won the Employee of the Year 2014/15 worth a prize of R5 000.
