Pensioner sleeps with one eye open

"At times I hear voices outside and would pray that they don't break in "

NKOHLAKALO – A 73 year-old pensioner is forced to sleep with one eye open as she fearing for her life since she doesn’t have a decent shelter.

Gogo Thembani Msane from this area said she has been struggling to get an RDP house and therefore is forced to live in a dilapidated structure that can be mistaken for a pig stall.

”I don’t sleep very well at nights. I am getting cold because the house has holes in it. I sleep with only one eye open because I’m always thinking about criminals. At times I hear voices outside and would pray that they don’t break in.
I have been living like this for years. It gets worse when it’s raining because the place just gets flooded. I am too old I can’t afford to build a house for myself since I am relying on my social grant to survive,” cried out Gogo Msane.

She pleaded with local citizens for assistance especially now that the rainy season is about to start.

“Nothing would make me happy than to have a decent roof above my head, so I can sleep like a baby even when it’s raining,” she added.
