PinkDrive to raise R200 000 cash

The indispensable and tangible breast cancer Non-Profit Organization (NPO), powering South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynecology Units (PinkDrive) will have a cycle tour in a bid to raise R200 000 cash aimed to delivering education and breast examinations to communities that are in need.

The cycle tour of 38 stages with six rest days; approx 3500km will start in Nelspruit on September the 1st 2015 and finish at Cape Town, on October 14.

One of the cyclists, Rick Budai will ride from Panorama to Sea, after his wife Carolyn was diagnosed with stage three-breast cancer in September 2014; he said it was a turning point in both their lives.

Carolyn has since had a single mastectomy, gone through Chemotherapy and Radiology, and today she is cancer free. Even though the couple escaped the worst, Rick believes had they found the cancer sooner, it would have made a difference.

“If through this initiative I can get even one person to get tested, I would have served my purpose,” said Budai.

All riders can join rick and David and ride at any particular stage for a R250 fee. To support people can also SMS key word PinkCycle to 40158, SMS’s charged R20.

Budai will be accompanied by a back up vehicle driven by his best friend, David Lasarow who lost both his parents to cancer. He will be the primary goal is to raise money for South Africa’s best-loved community Care and to drive home the fact that ‘Early Detection Saves Lives”.

All PinkDrive units travel to semi-urban and urban areas around South Africa with the aim of enabling all disadvantaged communities access to women’s health services.These services include free education on women’s health, free mammograms, free pap smears, free clinical examinations and how to do breast self-examination. PinkDrive PinkDrive’s underlying message is ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’.
